Handling Bare Root

The arrival of warmer temperatures and melting snow brings the desire to rush outside and get plant-ing! Early spring is the best time to find bare root trees - both fruit trees and shade trees. So what does bare root mean?

Asparagus

Asparagus is a perennial vegetable that is best suited for cooler areas. It is grown for the spears or thestems. A well tended planting yields 8-10 lbs. per 100 sq.ft. or 24 lbs. per 100 ft. row.

Amaryllis

The large bell-shaped or lily-like flowers of the amaryllis make excellent potted plants. A 26-30 cm. circumference Amaryllis bulb will usually produce 1-2 flower stems with 3-4 flowers per stem. A 34 cm.

Roses

Watering affects the success of your roses more than any other thing. Roses need 1 to 2inches of water each week, preferably all at one time. Hot, dry weather (as well as a very poroussoil) will make it necessary to water more frequently.

Raspberries

There are three main types of raspberries; red, black, and purple. Yellow raspberries are a variation of the red raspberry. Red raspberries are most commonly  grown in Utah.

Mycorrhizae

Mycorrhizal fungi have occurred naturally in the soil for 400 million years. They form a close symbioticrelationship with plant roots. They are called mycorrhizae (from the Greek "mukés", meaning fungus, and"rhiza," meaning roots).
